Brooklin Eats

As early in the year as it is, although I can't believe it's March, the late summer event known as "Brooklin Eats," has been up for discussion. Although I wasn't present at a casual, early meeting, it was passed on to me that some different ideas were tossed around. The idea of a later season, or early fall "Brooklin Harvest Supper" was one. This would be in place of the open market on the green as years past. Farms, producers, restaurants, businesses would donate something and a local foods menu would be offered at a decided upon location(ideas?), at an affordable price. Proceeds to benefit a Brooklin fund or charity, or establish a new one. I think establishing a specific producer's/grower's /farmer's fund might be an idea. $ for start-up, seeds, equipment, replacing systems. Not a loan- a grant model. Throwing it around, and wonder what would be involved?

Any thoughts?

  1. I see a Sunday afternoon harvest dinner(2-4pm) on WoodenBoat picinic tables at the town green. Choose the third Sunday in Sept( a week before Commonground Fair) A single menu prepared by town's restaurants and chefs...amuse bouche, app, entree, salad, dessert...(each taking a part) on white paper tablecloths, fine plastic tableware served by some organization and costing $10 or $20 per person all proceeds to benifit some specified town fund.

Bands would play, honored guests recognized, opportunities for additional giving provided (not a 50/50). Essentially an end of summer celebration of local food.

  2. A fall harvest event is a great idea. I wonder if The Reach Lodge would be a good location? It could be both inside and outside if held there.
A clam bake, outside grilling, and an inside buffet could provide something for everyone. I wonder if Paul B. would be interested in participating with his shell fish? I do think later in the day would be best. Say from 5 - 8. Is there a committee making decisions?
